- By Sandra J. Pennecke

New York City-based Chase Bank is expanding throughout Hampton Roads as part of its planned growth throughout the U.S. in the next three years.

The consumer and commercial banking subsidiary of J.P. Morgan announced it plans to add more than 500 branches and 3,500 new hires while renovating roughly 1,700 locations. Nine of the new branches will be in Hampton Roads, which currently has five branches in Norfolk, Newport News and Williamsburg.

In July, Chase will open its first two branches in Virginia Beach. They will be in Hickman Place at 2160 General Booth Blvd. and in Fairfield Shopping Center at 5256 Providence Road. A location will also open in Peninsula Town Center at 1700 W. Mercury Blvd. in Hampton in July and in Greenbrier Market Center at 1300 Greenbrier Parkway in Chesapeake in October. The remaining five new branches will open between 2025 and 2027.

Chase’s commercial banking has been present in Hampton Roads for years, which is what is leading to the expansion of its retail presence as well, said Alfonso Guzman, Chase mid-Atlantic director.

“When Chase comes to market, we come with the full force of the firm,” Guzman said. “It’s important for us to be the bank for all and support the community with as many financial health resources as we can provide.”

By the end of the year, Guzman said Chase will have more than 65 employees throughout Hampton Roads.

“We’ve already hired several employees for these branches, but we do expect more openings in the next few months for our July and October branches,” he said.

Jennifer Roberts, CEO of Chase Consumer

Banking, said in a news release that about 900,000 people walk into a Chase branch every day to cash a check, make a deposit or make important financial decisions.

“This investment means we can continue to have branch locations that reflect the unique needs of the communities we aspire to serve today, tomorrow and for many years to come,” Roberts said.

Chase serves close to 80 million consumers and 6 million small businesses throughout the country with a variety of financial services, including personal banking, credit cards, mortgages, auto and small business loans and payment processing.
