Over 600 new coronaviru­s cases reported in Virginia

The total confirmed now stands at 64,583

The Virginia Department of Health reported 635 coronaviru­s cases Wednesday, bringing the state’s tally to 67,375.

Of the total cases, 64,583 are confirmed and 2,792 are probable, meaning those patients are symptomati­c and have a known exposure to the illness.

At least 1,881 Virginians have died from the virus as of Wednesday morning, up 24 from Tuesday.

Throughout the state, there have been 7,089 cases in long-term care facilities and 1,149 deaths, according to data from the VDH.

The state’s seven-day percentage of positive PCR tests remained the same at 6.0%. Virginia reported 9,880 new PCR tests were performed, bringing the total to 735,207.

The number of people currently hospitaliz­ed for COVID-19 is 971, according to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Associatio­n. Of those, 594 have confirmed cases and 377 are awaiting test results. So far, 9,011 COVID-19 patients have been discharged. As of Wednesday morning, 21% of the state’s ventilator­s are in use.

Here are the latest numbers for the region compared to Tuesday. The large number represents the number of cases reported in each locality since the pandemic began.

■ Accomack: 1,042 (no change); 14 deaths (no change)

■ Chesapeake: 1,088 (up 42); 22 deaths (no change)

■ Gloucester: 52 (down 1); 1 death (no change)

■ Hampton: 409 (up 19); 5 deaths (no change)

■ Isle of Wight: 204 (up 5); 9 deaths (no change)

■ James City: 313 (up 7); 16 deaths (up 1)

■ Mathews: 6 (no change); 0 deaths (no change)

■ Middlesex: 15 (no change); 0 deaths (no change)

■ Newport News: 634 (up 21); 10 deaths (no change)

■ Norfolk: 1,194 (up 32); 14 deaths (up 2)

■ Northampto­n: 272 (no change); 28 deaths (no change)

■ Poquoson: 19 (no change); 0 deaths (no change)

■ Portsmouth: 593 (up 21); 18 deaths (no change)

■ Suffolk: 487 (up 17); 38 deaths (no change)

■ Virginia Beach 1,520 (up 65); 30 deaths (no change)

■ Williamsbu­rg: 77 (up 2); 6 deaths (no change)

■ York: 135 (up 4); 3 deaths (no change)

In Virginia, people older than 80 account for 3,530 cases and 973 deaths. Here’s how the rest of the age groups break down for cases and deaths:

■ 70-79: 3,434 cases, 476 deaths

■ 60-69: 6,604 cases, 274 deaths

■ 50-59: 10,128 cases, 115 deaths

■ 40-49: 11,825 cases, 48 deaths

■ 30-39: 12,456 cases, 13 deaths

■ 20-29: 11,593 cases, 4 deaths

■ 10-19: 4,895 cases, 0 deaths

■ 0-9: 2,261 cases, 0 deaths The VDH did not report ages for 649 cases and two deaths.

Here are the seven-day percent positivity rates for the Health Districts around Hampton Roads:

■ Chesapeake: 9.7% (up)

■ Eastern Shore: 4.5% (up)

■ Hampton: 6.9% (up)

■ Norfolk: 13.9% (up)

■ Peninsula: 6.3% (no change)

■ Portsmouth: 13.6% (up)

■ Virginia Beach: 5.9% (up)

■ Western Tidewater: 6.4% (up)

Since the pandemic began in Virginia, 33,946 women have had cases and 942 women have died, while 32,979 men have had cases and 953 men have died. Of the state tally, 450 cases don’t have a reported sex and 10 deaths don’t have a reported sex.
