Passenger dies in Williamsburg-area car crash; charges pending
One man died July 4 in the Williamsburg area after the convertible he was in crashed into a ditch. Another person is expected to face charges.
The crash happened around 12:22 a.m. in the 200 block of Marclay Road, said James City County deputy police chief Stephen Rubino in an email Tuesday afternoon.
The James City County Police Department and Fire and Rescue responded after receiving a report of a single-vehicle crash.
A preliminary investigation found that a 19-year-old man was driving a 2012 Ford Mustang convertible with the top down at a high speed. He lost control of the vehicle, causing it to hit a ditch, go airborne and spin, police said.
There were four people in the vehicle, police said. One of them, 18-year-old Christopher Lee King, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said King was not wearing a seat belt and was the only occupant who was injured.
The crash remains under investigation and charges are expected.
