Carter zooms to two Modified wins
HAMPTON — Matt Carter swept a pair of Modified 30-lap races to highlight a busy Saturday night at Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway.
Mark Wertz finished second in both races of Langley’s first cool-weather card since action resumed after the coronavirus pandemic, trailing by 2.884 seconds in the division’s opener and by 0.854 of a second in the encore.
Chris Johnson was third and Rick Gdovic fourth in the first race, and they swapped spots in the second event. Both races had14 starters.
The biggest field of the night, 25 drivers, clashed in the Enduro 30, which Richard Ellis won by 391-thousandths of a second over Charlie Bryant.
In the Champ Kart 20-lapper, which attracted a field of19, Aaron Leach edged Hunter Waltrip by180-thousandths of a second. Matthew Leach, Aaron’s brother, was third.
In the UCAR 25-lapper, Michael Waters emerged atop a field of 10, beating Robert Dezero by 902-thousandths of a second.
Jimmy Adkins took the checkered flag in a 15-driver Super Street 40lapper, beating Danny Harrell by 675thousandths of a second.
Louie Pasderetz headed the field of 11 in the Super Truck 25, in which Ronald Klein was the runner-up, 1.124 seconds behind.
Only four drivers competed in the Pro Six 20-lapper, which Jared Clarke won by 1.073 seconds over Jason Michaux.
Four other drivers competed in a pair of 35-lap Virginia Racers clashes, with Landon Pemberton prevailing by 0.736 in the openeroverCole Bruce. ButIsle of Wight County native Zach Lightfoot bounced back from a third-place finish to win the rematch, beating Pemberton by three-tenths of a second.
