JR Motorsports driver Berry wins two Late Model races
HAMPTON — A veteran driver who works in Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s organization came to Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway on Saturday and achieved a sweep of twin Late Model 50-lap races.
Josh Berry, 29, of JR Motorsports, who has experience in NASCAR’s Xfinity and Truck Series, won both features on a chilly night. The CARS Tour driver from Mooresville, North Carolina, overcame Peyton Sellers by 1.139 seconds in the first race and Connor Hall by 548-thousandths of a second in the encore, twice finishing atop a field of17.
Hall, Brenden “Butterbean” Queen and Greg Edwards completed the top five in the opener, and Greg Edwards, Queen and Danny Edwards finished third through fifth in the rematch.
The Late Models were one of three divisions to hold two races apiece Saturday.
In Super Street 25-lap events, Renno Marchetti won the first by 1.381 seconds over Sean Calway in a field of 15 drivers. Marchetti was the runnerup to Jimmy Adkins by 0.789 in the second race.
In Super Truck 20s, Rick Poust took first place among 12 drivers by 370thousandths over Ryan Huff, who bounced back to win the encore by 0.775 over Louie Pasderetz.
Thomas Fontaine emerged atop the night’s largest field, winning a 30-lap Enduro race over Chris Kane that featured 25 drivers.
Tommy Jackson Jr. scored a 25-lap Legends triumph by 552-thousandths over Devon Courtney, the runner-up among14 competitors.
Zach Lightfoot, who grew up in
Windsor, won the five-driver, 35-lap Virginia Racers event by 1.159 seconds over Landon Pemberton.
Ryley Music continued his yearlong mastery of the Bandolero group, beating Petr Theriault by 0.660 of a second.
