Stop justifying Time for congrats

-

If America gives the election to President Donald Trump because he is whining like a spoiled brat or suffering from a rejection sensitivity disorder, then we should end the presidential election process, allow Trump to remain in office for life and choose his own successor. If fraud existed in President-elect Joe Biden’s win, are we to believe that fraud did not exist in Republican (congressional) wins?

This is so unfair to millions of voters who are being branded as liars, cheats and frauds to rationalize and justify Trump’s defiant behavior. If he is the “God” president as many will attest, perhaps he should display some of these characteristics in his personal behavior.

The recent presidential election reminded me of a lesson I had to teach my son when he was in high school and had just lost the city championship baseball playoff game. Following the final out he threw his glove to the turf and began to engage in an emotional temper tantrum. After he calmed down I explained to him that he had to learn that when you win, you win with class and that when you lose, you lose with class. The important thing is that you gave it your best effort, that you realized there would be another game in the future, and that you should again put forth your best effort. You learn from your losses and prepare for the future.

What bothers me the most about our recent election is not President Donald Trump, because this country will be around when Trump will be nothing but another name in the history books. This country will survive Trump, just as it has survived those presidents who came before him.

What is important is that our democracy survives. In a democracy you will always have different sides, and our differences should not result in demonizing the opposition nor result in name-calling and character assassinations. The opposition is not our enemy but is just that — our political opposition. Win or lose, tomorrow is going to come, and we have to understand that we are on the same team. Trump supporters should accept that they lost this election, congratulate the winning side, and move on and prepare for the next election.
