Get a grip Thank you
Re “Districts need families to fill out aid forms to get millions in funds. Some are refusing.” (Dec. 6): I am disgusted with the selfish, shortsighted and irrational actions of some parents of Hampton Roads schoolchildren. To refuse to submit federal enrollment forms, which are essential to the award of federal funds to local school districts, is ridiculous. I am sickened with those who somehow think that the removal of thousands, if not millions, of dollars from the schools’ operating funds will somehow facilitate the expensive and significant efforts of school and medical professionals to return all children to their school buildings. Simply disgusting.

Re “A Christmas wish list for higher education in Virginia” (Other Views, Dec. 19): “Yes USA, there is a Dr. Scott D.
Miller, Virginia Wesleyan University president.” An obvious take on, “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.”
Miller’s enlightening op-ed deserves to be required reading across our country. I am a Hokie and a Hoya, not a Marlin, but my spirits were buoyed more each time that I read his treatise.
We have experienced a frustrating and a disgusting degradation of the very essence of our country, but expressions such as Miller’s bring elation to our collective hearts. It has taken this erudite university president to give us much needed hope with humor during a season of despair.
I am going to read his column again, and I suggest that you do too. We can feel a lot better together.
