A Norfolk man was arrested and charged with stabbing a woman and a 3-month-old boy to death Tuesday in Ocean View.

Duwane E. Warren, 26, is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and is being held in the Norfolk City Jail without bond, police said in a news release.

When Warren was taken before a magistrate Wednesday to be charged, he “stated that he was sorry for what he did,” a court filing says.

The attack happened at 1 p.m. in the 9500 block of 6th Bay Street, police said. Police went to an apartment complex after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance, and found Epifani D. Andrews and a 3-monthold boy suffering from stab wounds. Both victims died at the scene. Warren’s home address is listed in the same block in court records.

And although police didn’t say how Warren knew either victim, he is charged in Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, which typically means the victim is either a family or household member or an intimate partner.

Detectives have not said why they think Warren killed the two, and said the medical examiner will determine exactly how they died.

Police did not release the infant’s name. A state law passed in 2017 bars police from releasing the name of a minor killed in any crime without the next of kin’s consent.

Warren’s next court date is 9 this morning, according to the Norfolk Sheriff ’s Office website.

A defendant with a similar name, Dwayne Warren, and the same birthday is facing a misdemeanor assault and battery charge in Norfolk General District court for an Oct. 30 incident.

Police would not confirm that defendant is the same one now charged with murder, but Duwane Warren’s name appears to be frequently misspelled in court records. And Norfolk Sheriff ’s Office records list an Oct. 30 assault and battery charge as well as the murder charges for Duwane Warren.

A Facebook post from what appears to be Warren’s account was shared over 1,600 times this week and had 1,100 comments.

Written shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday, the post reads in part, “What I’ve done is unforgivable” and adds: “Piff I love you so much n I’m sorry for not being a better and loving father to our babies may they RIP.”

The account’s owner is listed as “Bruce Wane,” but photos of Warren are posted on the profile, some dating as far back as August.

Police did not immediately respond to comments about the post.
