THE BUZZ This week’s question: What is your New Year’s wish or resolution for your community or Hampton Roads in general?

-

The Buzz is a weekly question about an issue affecting the residents of Hampton Roads.

I have three fervent wishes for Norfolk in 2021. Take a very hard and honest look at the utility and sense of some of the bike lanes. Don’t spend another dime studying and planning to expand light rail. Pass and enforce strict leash and pick-up laws for dogs.

Don Vtipil, Norfolk

My wish is for Hampton Roads drivers to stop littering our roads and their borders with fast-food containers, coffee cups, cans, bottles, cigarette packs and other trash. Stash them instead in a plastic grocery bag for the garbage can at home. Our area would be so much more beautiful!

Bill Harrell, Chesapeake

Hopefully, the COVID-19 pandemic will be in the rear-view mirror by summer 2021. I don’t like being labeled a pariah by other countries. It’s bucket-list time and I want to be able to travel.

Robert Neely, Newport News

For America to reverse Virginia’s planned overdevelopment of retired

Fort Monroe, east of the bridge-tunnel’s Hampton end, where captive Africans landed in 1619 — and where slavery escapees inspired the self-emancipation movement that made the Civil War a freedom struggle. We should consider it a candi

date World Heritage Site.

Steve Corneliussen, Poquoson

My prayer is that community members will resolve to follow public health guidelines with regard to social distancing and mask wearing. Further, that area school districts will adhere to strict mitigation protocols as they gradually bring students back into the classrooms. These actions are needed to avoid the worst scenario during the winter months.

Tom Banford, Chesapeake

I would like to see less hate and acrimony in politics and in the media. We don’t get the truth; we only get one side. That just causes more problems. I would like to see teacher unions stop ripping off teachers with their high fees for managing 403(b) retirement plans.
