Dominion Energy to give $500K in scholarships to minority students
If you’re a minority student in Virginia or the nine other states in Dominion Energy’s service area, the power company wants to hear from you.
This year, the company is awarding $500,000 in scholarships to students who identify as Black, Hispanic or Latino, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, according to a news release.
Dominion Energy said 20 students at two-year schools will get $5,000, and 40 students at fouryear schools will get $10,000.
The money will go to high school seniors or graduates or college undergraduates living in Virginia, Connecticut, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Idaho, Wyoming and Utah. The scholarship application period ends at 4 p.m. Jan. 25.
Students can apply at DominionEnergy.com/EquityScholarships.
The scholarships are part of the Dominion Energy Educational Equity Scholarship Program, an effort to award $10 million in scholarships over six years.
Eligible students have to enroll full-time at an accredited two or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
Recipients can renew scholarships as they progress in school as long as they meet the criteria. That includes GPA requirements and residence in an eligible state.
The scholarship announcement comes months after Dominion Energy’s pledge to give $25 million to 11 historically black colleges and universities in Virginia, Ohio, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Recipients include Hampton University, Norfolk State University, Virginia Union University and Virginia State University.
