Disingenuous

-

As a long-time resident of Hampton Roads, I am deeply ashamed and saddened that a member of our congressional delegation, Rep. Rob Wittman, has joined those Republicans who have sacrificed decency, honor and commitment to the Constitution on the altar of allegiance to President Donald Trump. By voting to object to the slate of electors from the state of Pennsylvania, even after the Capitol had been sacked by a mob instigated by the lies of the president, he chose those lies over the truth that the people have voted Trump out of power in a clean and orderly election.

I cannot think of a more disingenuous “justification” than to point to “people feeling disenfranchised” after he and a large fraction of the Republican Party have been parroting those lies to stir up this misguided passion in the first place. Now he is shedding crocodile tears about what he and his colleagues have wrought. I want to ask Wittman: Are tax cuts for the rich and a few conservative judges really worth selling your soul for?

Sebastian Kuhn, Norfolk owners, the tenants would have no place to live. It is the property owners who take the financial risk of purchasing properties to rent, who pay mortgages, taxes, insurance and maintenance costs. Where do you think the money to pay these costs comes from?

To continue to allow tenants to accrue multiple months of back rent encourages the tenants to look elsewhere for new residences to start a new lease with a clean slate versus paying the landlord the delinquent rent. And to require landlords to jump through hoops to apply for rental assistance and wait 14 days versus five days to file an unlawful detainer are additional costs not reimbursed. It’s time the legislators and the governor start recognizing the role of the landlord/property owner and start drafting legislation to protect those rights.
