Trade for Harden adds to Nets’ lack of stability

- Bob Molinaro

Kevin Durant, who wanted James Harden on the Brooklyn Nets, is the same insecure guy who left the Warriors and Steph Curry to join Kyrie Irving, who’s flakier than grandma’s biscuits. Maybe Kevin should leave the team-building to others. Harden is a ball-centric gunner who doesn’t play defense, while a moody Irving deserts the team to nurse grievances.

The Nets have brought together an amazing array of star-studded head cases. If I were rookie coach Steve Nash, I’d add two shrinks to my staff — one for the players, one for myself.

To the point: Charles Barkley, on the prospects of success for the Nets’ Big Three: “This has zero chance of working.”

For what it’s worth: In the wake of his Saturday performance, some will argue that at this moment, Taylor Heinicke is the NFC East’s best quarterback.

A Patriot’s call: Do you believe that Bill Belichick took a principled stand by declining the Presidential Medal of Freedom this week? Consider how his announcement was so passively worded: “The decision has been made not to move forward with the award.” Decision made by whom? Spurning the award just proves Belichick is keeping up with current events.

Wondering: How long will some of us have to live before we witness a College Football Playoff title game that holds our interest

through the third quarter?

Roll Tide: Every player recruited by Nick Saban who has stayed at Alabama for four years has been on at least one national championship team.

Revelation: Under the category of “if you blinked, you missed it,” we learned Monday night that Alabama really did have a punter.

Drafty: If a struggling NFL team can’t improve its quarterback situation through the draft or free agency, the next best thing would be to take Alabama’s DeVonta Smith. He’ll make any QB better.

These times: Thunder guard George Hill, on the NBA’s updated COVID protocol: “We can sweat 48 minutes a game with (an opponent) next to us, but we can’t talk to them afterwards. It makes no sense.”

Unraveling: How many more NBA games have to be canceled before it’s determined that things are getting out of the league’s control?

Simple facts: Not to draw a direct line between outcomes and the absence of big crowds, but road teams won four of six games during the NFL wild-card weekend.

In doubt: With a recent large rise in Japan’s COVID19 cases, the Tokyo Summer Games — still called the 2020 Olympics — may be in jeopardy again. In a recent poll, 63% of the Japanese public called for a postponement or cancellation.

Bottom line: By delaying the decision on the Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) legislation, the NCAA couldn’t make it any plainer that it opposes economic rights for athletes. And always will if it gets its way.

Big splash: With Urban Meyer as coach and Trevor Lawrence at quarterback, the Jacksonville Jaguars would fog the mirror for the first time in years before even playing a game.

Next Gen: While the showdown between Tom Brady and Drew Brees arguably creates the biggest national attraction this weekend, if I had to choose only one game to watch, it would be Saturday’s primetime meeting between the Bills’ Josh Allen and Ravens’ Lamar Jackson. Young legs before old heads.
