Norfolk group wants nominations for the city’s preservation projects
NORFOLK — The Norfolk Preservation Collective wants nominations for its second annual Preservation Awards of Excellence program. It seeks to identify and recognize people and groups who have successfully preserved historic properties in the city or have created compatible new construction. Another goal of the program is to advocate for best practices when it comes to preservation and to celebrate those who make preservation possible.
Nominations may be submitted by individual property owners or the architects, interior designers, landscape architects, builders, developers and other professionals associated with the project. The sites must be located in Norfolk and completed within the past five years. While the awards will be given to the property owners, associated project professionals will also be recognized.
Nominations are being accepted in these categories:
Historic preservation residential, single-family
Historic preservation residential, multi-family
Historic preservation commercial
Historic preservation mixed-use
Compatible new construction The properties will be evaluated on several criteria including innovative approaches in restoration and/or adaptive use, sensitive treatment and retention of historic features and overall quality of work. The deadline is 5 p.m. April 12, and must be submitted by email to norfolkpreservation collective@gmail.com. Awards will be given at a ceremony on May 12.
