Big Ten quarterfin­al No. 7 Maryland 83, Nebraska 73

INDIANAPOL­IS — Former Boo Williams AAU player Ashley Owusu, a sophomore guard and unanimous All-Big Ten selection, delivered team highs of 22 points, nine rebounds and eight assists to lead Maryland (22-2) to the Big Ten semifinals.

Owusu sank 10 of 11 free throws, including all seven in the final quarter to help the top-seeded Terrapins pull away. She scored 13 in the fourth quarter.

“Ashley was tremendous,” Maryland coach Brenda Frese said. “She was a facilitato­r in the first half and then really understand­s when the team needs a bucket.”

FRISCO, Texas — Lauren Schwartz had 27 points for the Owls (18-3), who face Old Dominion tonight.

Rice used a 24-7 third quarter, including a trio of 3-pointers and 13 points by Schwartz, to seize control of a close game.

Middle Tennessee 77, Louisiana Tech 71

FRISCO, Texas — Anastasia Hayes showed why she was voted the Conference USA

Player of the Year, scoring 20 second-half points and finishing with 34 for Middle Tennessee State (15-7). Louisiana Tech (14-10) led 51-50 after three quarters, but Hayes then scored seven points in the Blue Raiders’ 10-0 run.

FRISCO, Texas — Katia Gallegos had 15 points and 11 assists for the Miners (17-7), who face Middle Tennesssee State tonight.

ELON, N.C. — Kiki Jefferson scored 23 points and freshman reserve Peyton McDaniel had 22 as second-seeded James Madison (14-9) ousted the Huskies (7-13). JMU will face Drexel or Elon today.

UNC Wilmington 52

ELON, N.C. — The top-seeded Blue Hens (20-3) ousted the ninth-seeded Seahawks (7-14), who are guided by Newport News native and former Old Dominion coach Karen Barefoot.

Delaware, which will play fifth-seeded Hofstra in a semifinal at 2:30 p.m. today, got 19 points from Jewel Smalls. CAA Player of the Year Jasmine Dickey recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 19 points and 13 rebounds.

UNCW was paced by senior Carol-Anne Obusek, who scored 18 points.

Atlantic 10 second round VCU 69, Davidson 52

RICHMOND — Tera Reed’s 20 points and Taya Robinson’s 18 points and seven rebounds led the fifth-seeded Rams (13-10) past the Wildcats (9-14) at Siegel Center. Fourth-seeded Rhode Island awaits VCU in a quarterfin­al at 2 p.m. today.

Exhibition

Shepherd 83, CNU 72

SHEPHERDST­OWN, W.Va. — Division III Christophe­r Newport completed its exhibition season at 7-2 with a loss to the Division II Rams, ending a seven-game winning streak.

The Captains led by eight points late in the first half but eventually yielded to Shepherd. Jasmine Norman scored 12 points, Anaya Simmons 11 and Camille Malagar 10 for CNU.

Abby Beeman scored 24 for Shepherd, which outscored the Captains 28-15 in the fourth quarter.
