Carmelo (Carl) Vega Jr., 66, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 surrounded by family. Born in 1955 in Manhattan, NY, he was the eldest child of Carmelo, Sr and Virginia Vega. At 13 years old he moved to Puerto Rico after graduating from Levittown High School. He moved back to NY where he joined the Air Force in 1974 and served until his retirement in 1984. After his retirement, he became an Environmen­tal Protection Specialist for DLA Dispositio­n Services in Norfolk, where he worked until retiring in 2018. His civil service and active duty encompasse­d a total of over 40 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carmelo, Sr and Virginia Vega. Carl is survived by his wife, Cynthia Vega of Smithfield, VA; his brothers, Rico Vega (Terry) of Seaford, VA and Sergio Vega of Delray, FL; his sons, David Vega of Newport News, VA and Michael Vega (Christina) of Newport News, VA; step-children, Krystal Thomas (Mark) of Colombia, TN and Jonathan Gilliam (Holly) of Greensboro, NC; 9 grandchild­ren and 1 great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at Weymouth Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 12noon on Monday, March 29, 2021 at Weymouth Funeral Home. Internment with Military Honors will be at Peninsula Memorial Park with a Celebratio­n of Life to be held afterwards at the home of Cynthia Vega. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to be made to the Isle of Wight Rescue Squad – Station 60, in thanks of their assistance. Arrangemen­ts by Weymouth Funeral Home.
