Peggy Copeland Hemphill

Peggy Copeland Hemphill, 77, passed away April 7, 2021. She was born in Nansemond Co., Virginia the daughter of the late Randolph Turner “Plutie” Copeland and Thelma Elaine Turner Copeland. Peggy retired as an Accounting Clerk with Porter's Accounting Service. She was a member of Suffolk Christian Church, West Memorial Sunday School Class, the Choir and a past member of various committees. Peggy was also a member of the Friday Owls Bowling League. She and Mel were also founding members of the Colonial Shag Club. Peggy is predeceased by her former husband, Robert X. Vail. Peggy is survived by her husband of 20+ years, Mel Hemphill; son, Nathan “Terry” Lewis, Jr. (Kattrell), step son, Kevin J. Hemphill (Stephanie); grandchild, Michael A. Lewis; great grandchild, Blake A. Lewis; sister, Linda C. Fletcher (John), brother, Randy T. Copeland (Mary Ellen); niece, Kaitlyn Fletcher; and nephew, Chris Fletcher. A funeral will be held Monday, April 12, 2021 at Suffolk Christian Church, 216 N. Main Street, Suffolk, VA 23434 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Michael D. Halley officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, April 11, 2021 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, VA 23434.
