Maury boys reach volleyball semis

Class 5 Region A Maury 3, Granby 0

Cooper Chiles, Ayden Pizarro, Beckett Pate and Nick English combined for 26 kills for the Commodores in a Class 5 Region A quarterfinal victory, 25-11, 25-19, 25-19.

Hayden Lynch added 24 assists and four aces and Ricky Stiles finished with 17 digs for Maury, which will face Cox today in a semifinal at Green Run High.

Rayne Manning had 16 kills and Sydney Love and Kayla Rogan combined for 17 kills to lead the Hawks past Indian River 25-16, 25-17, 25-16 in a Class 5 Region A quarterfinal.

Milly Mach added 23 assists for Hickory, which will face Woodside in Thursday’s semifinal round. The tournament winner will advance to the state semifinals.

Princess Anne 3, Kempsville 0

JiJi Lykins had 20 kills for Princess Anne as the Cavaliers defeated Kempsville 25-16, 25-5, 25-12 in a Class 5 Region A quarterfinal.

Noelle Starr added 11 kills and 15 service points for the Cavaliers.

Class 4 Region A Grafton 3, Churchland 0

Alondra Miranda-Pagan finished with 19 assists and nine aces as top-seeded Grafton cruised in straight sets in a Class 4 Region A quarterfinal.

Lily Scheeren added eight kills and five aces for Grafton, which won 25-4, 25-5, 25-3.

Shachia Lamb had six kills and Deana Pigue finished with 10 digs for the Clippers, who advanced to Tuesday’s semifinal against Great Bridge.

Class 6 Region A play-in Kellam 3, Ocean Lakes 0

Jessica George had 14 kills and 12 digs to lead the Knights as they punched their ticket to the Class 6 Region A tournament with a 25-11, 25-6, 25-18 victory Monday night.

Kaytie Gosiene added 12 digs, Sarah Thompson had eight kills, Maeson Peterson had seven kills and Rhea Cammel finished with 28 assists for Kellam, which was to face Grassfield in Tuesday’s semifinal.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Class 5 Region A Cox 3, Kempsville 0

Daniel Hurley had 13 kills, 13 digs and seven aces and Jason Wang added eight kills to help lead the Falcons over the Chiefs 25-19, 25-14, 25-18 in a quarterfinal.

Tyler Poole added 14 digs and combined with Logan Manning for 10 kills.

Class 4 Eastern Section Denbigh 3, Norcom 0

Chandler Wilson had 15 aces and six kills for Denbigh, which defeated Norcom 25-12, 25-11, 25-11 in a Class 4 Eastern Section quarterfinal.

Jamaury Starks added eight aces and 10 kills and Ray Dela Cruz contributed 24 assists for the Patriots, who next will face Menchville or Booker T. Washington.
