John B Burling Jr.
It is with great sadness that the family of John B. Burling, 71, announces his passing on February 16, 2021 in Statesboro, Georgia.
John was born in Ithaca, New York to John & Dorothy Burling, on July 29, 1949. He graduated from Lehigh University, Bethlehem Pennsylvania. He married Connie B. Rutherford on December 20, 1980 in Williamsburg, Virginia. He worked at the Newport News Shipbuilding as an accountant for numerous years before continuing his career at Ashe Facilities Services. John was a numbers man and a hard worker. Once retiring to Statesboro Georgia, he decided he enjoyed and missed his career, so he continued his passion working at Georgia Southern University.
John was known for his bigger than life personality and vibrant, sharp wit and humor. John was hardworking, strong, and a man of respect. He loved his family and was deeply devoted to his wife, sons and their families. He was an avid fan of movies, riveting facts and delicious candies. He enjoyed spending time with his family and being with his grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by all that loved him.
John is survived by his children (Michael & Mikaela Burling and Scott & Sarah Burling), grandchildren (Adalyn Burling, Lyla Burling and Colton Burling); sister (Rosemary Hertlzer); several nieces, nephews and many loving friends. John is preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years Connie R. Burling and both his parents John & Dorothy Burling.
While John’s family grieves his loss, they are choosing to remember John in a way that honors his spirit. His family invites the community to join them in a Celebration of Life Ceremony. It will take place at Waters Edge Church Yorktown Campus (6830 George Washington Memorial Hwy, Yorktown, VA) on Friday, April 23rd, 2021 at 1:00pm in combination with his late wife’s Celebration of Life. A private interment for both will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park Cemetery for immediate family.
The family of John B. Burling, Jr. wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Doctors and staff at East Georgia Regional Medical Center and Landmark Rehabilitation Facility. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Red Cross Covid-19 Relief.
