Kellam wins Class 6 Region A golf title

Class 6 Region A tournament

Michael McIntosh carded an even-par 72 to tie for medalist honors and lead Kellam to the team title at Red Wing Lake Golf Course in Virginia Beach on Tuesday.

James River’s Zach Wilson also shot 72.

Kellam’s Luis Park and Matthew Tigrett finished at 73 to tie for third and Preston Dean tied for sixth at 76 as the Knights finished with a team total of 294. James River (299), Cosby (313), Ocean Lakes (340) and Franklin County (341) rounded out the top five.

Here are highlights from Tuesday’s other postseason events:

Boys volleyball Class 4 Eastern Section Denbigh 3, Menchville 2

Jamaury Starks had 27 kills and 28 digs, Chandler Wilson added 14 kills and Ray Dela Cruz finished with 32 assists as the Patriots outlasted their Newport News rivals in a semifinal, 25-23, 24-26, 25-19, 19-25, 15-11.

Great Bridge 3, Warwick 0

Blake DeBrucker had 17 assists and 10 kills while Solomon Cordew added 16 assists and nine kills. Chris Narducci chipped in 11 kills, and the

Wildcats combined for 16 blocks.

Girls volleyball Class 6 Region A Kellam 3, Grassfield 0

Kate Ayre had seven kills and three blocks. Jessica George led with 15 kills. Sarah Thompson added nine kills. Rhea Cammel finished with 40 assists in a semifinal. Kaytie Gosiene had 19 digs for the Knights, who will play Franklin County for the region title.

Class 5 Region A Maury 3, Granby 1

Katie McCullough and Maddie Dixon combined for 18 kills, Noelle

Searing added 10 digs and Laney Ritter finished with 24 assists in the Commodores’ quarterfin­al win.

Class 4 Region A

Grafton 3, Great Bridge 0

Lily Scheeren led the Clippers in their semifinal victory with 18 kills and 20 digs. Alexis Keeter added nine kills, six aces and 10 digs, Shachia Lamb had 10 kills, Alondra Miranda-Pagan had 31 assists and 16 digs, and Deana Pigue finished with 19 digs.

The Clippers will play host to Warhill at 6:30 tonight for the region championsh­ip and a state semifinal berth.
