Johnson drives to Balluzzo Memorial 100 Modified win
Hampton track crowns more champions as season ends
Chris Johnson won the Shawn Balluzzo Memorial 100 Modified race on a chilly Saturday night as Langley Speedway crowned champions in its final categories for 2021.
Johnson won a close finish over Brad Adams over the 39.5-mile, 100-lap race, which attracted 31 competitors.
Chase Burrow was third, just 199-thousandths of a second behind. Colby Vance was fourth and Michael Johnson fifth.
Defending champion Jeremy Gerstner was 13th among the 18 drivers who finished on the lead lap.
The race didn’t count in the Modified point standings. Matt Carter, who was 15th Saturday but won 10 races this season, had clinched that title long ago over runner-up Adams.
Meanwhile, Langley crowned its other champions of the season in weekly competition.
SuperStreet: Dale Nichols placed sixth in a 40-lap race to take the season championship over Gordon Weeks, who took fifth but beganthenightwithaneight-point deficit. Landon Abbott won the 18-driver event by 1.404 seconds over runner-up Trey Taylor.
Super Truck: Ryan Huff placed fifth in the 25-lap race, easily capturing the season championship over third-running Shannon Lester. Huff led by eight points when the green flag fell. Chase McAdams won the 10-driver race by 1.801 seconds over Hunter Waltrip.
UCAR: Christian Keller took third place in a 25-lap race as he breezed to the championship, thanks to the 25-point cushion he already enjoyed on Bill Eaker. Landon Florian won Saturday by 836-thousandths of a second over Hayden Sheldon, the runner-up among 15 competitors.
Champ Kart: The Leach brothers dueled for the championship, with Aaron taking the season title despite finishing as the runner-up in a 20-lap race, 62-thousandths of a second behind Matthew. Matthew Leach earned his fifth victory of the year but finished two points behind Aaron. If Aaron had been well off the pace in the 14-driver race, he would have surrendered the crown.
