Dorothy Mae Mills

-

Dorothy Mae Mills, departed this life in Bradenton, Florida on November 1, 2021 . She was born in Chesapeake, Virginia, on April 25th, 1933, the daughter of the late Alfred Stevens, and the late Roxanna Dawson-Stevens.

Dorothy grew up in the Hampton and Newport News area of Virginia and attended George P Phoenix High School in Hampton. She would later obtain her Associates Degree in Applied Science in Management at Middlesex County College in N.J.

Dorothy married the late Barion “Bob” Mills, Sr. in 1950. As the wife of a career U.S. Army soldier, Dorothy lived in Germany, Thailand and several locations in the U.S. In the midst of those travels, Dorothy secured employment with Johnson and Johnson Pharmaceuticals spanning from 1964 to 1991, with some time away while stationed with her husband in Bangkok, Thailand. She retired from Johnson and Johnson as a supervisor in Claims and Customer Relations in 1991.

Always religious, Dorothy had been a long time member of Stelton Baptist Church in Edison N.J. until retirement and her move to Florida where she would then join West Bradenton Baptist Church in Bradenton Florida. Dorothy loved to sing and from the 1960's until 2016 she sang in the Choir during her time at both Churches. A longtime sports fan of the New York Yankees you always knew where she was for 162 days of the year, and that would be going through the ups and downs of first, Reggie Jackson and later Derek Jeter from first pitch to last. With the Yankees in those years she thankfully had more ups than downs.

Dorothy is predeceased by her husband “Bob” (2002) and their daughter Beverly Gail MillsAdams (1985), her brother Irving Stevens (2018) and sister Beatrice (1958).

She leaves to cherish her precious memory, her two sons, Terry G. Mills of Jacksonville, Florida

and Barion Mills, Jr. (Norma) of Aventura, Florida and Rochester, NY; a son-in law, Wayne Adams of Somerset, NJ; three wonderful granddaughter's, Jennifer Adams of Somerset NJ, Brittany Mills of Jacksonville, FL and Danielle Mills of San Diego, CA; three great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be held on Wednesday November 3, 2021 from 5-7pm at Shannon Funeral Home Town Chapel.
