Great Bridge adds to its momentum

Madison Watson finished with eight kills and Kolleen Priest added six kills and four aces as Great Bridge rolled to a straightse­ts win over Heritage in a Class 4 Region A girls volleyball quarterfin­al Wednesday.

Kaydence Fitz-Gerald added 17 digs for the Wildcats in their 25-9, 25-7, 25-10 victory.

Great Bridge (18-6) has won nine out of its past 10 matches.

CROSS COUNTRY Tabb dominates Class 3 Region A

Tabb came away with a pair of team titles at the Class 3 Region A cross country championsh­ips at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake.

Nick Smerlis was the top individual finisher in the boys race in 16 minutes, 41.90 seconds, to lead Tabb to a team win with 35 points. Joshua Way (17:16.87) finished third for Tabb. Lafayette (47) placed second and New Kent (87) was third.

Tabb’s Katryna Aulenbach (19:43.95) finished first in the girls race as the Tigers earned a team win with 39 points. The Tigers’ Lauren Pegher was the runner-up in 19:53.09.

New Kent (40) and Lafayette (64) finished second and third, respective­ly.

The top three teams in both divisions, plus the next five runners in each division not on those teams, qualified for the state meet at Great Meadow, in The Plains, on Nov. 13.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL Falcons cruise in quarterfin­al

Cox, led by Daniel Hurley’s 13 kills, seven aces and three blocks, earned a straight-sets win over First Colonial in a Class 5 Region A quarterfin­al.

Collin Whitney added eight kills, Chris Peters had seven kills and three aces and Kyle Schlaepfer finished with 34 assists for the Falcons.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL #757TeamzMV­P: Miranda-Pagan leads Grafton

Grafton’s Alondra Miranda-Pagan finished with 28 assists and eight aces and Alexis Keeter added 12 kills to lead the No. 1 seed Clippers to a straight-sets win over eighth-seeded Churchland in a Class 4 Region A quarterfin­al.

Naomi Smalls had eight kills and Maesyn Blaylock, Leila Harris and Alyssa Talayumpte­wa combined for 14 kills for Grafton (23-1), which has dropped just eight sets this season.

Wildcats set to play for sixth straight region title

Great Bridge erupted for 11 firsthalf goals on the way to a 13-0 Class 4 Region A semifinal win over Warwick.

Lily Johnson finished with four goals, Madi Wiley added three goals and three assists and Julia Foren had a pair of goals for the Wildcats.

Lydia Hall, Hannah Higgins, Abby Farris and Autumn Laber also scored, while Greyson Curth added three assists.

The Wildcats will play Jamestown, which topped Grafton 1-0 in its semifinal, as they seek a sixth straight region crown.

Gloucester compiles its 16th shutout

Gloucester’s Reese Miller finished with a hat trick as the Dukes defeated Maury 6-0 in a Class 5 Region B field hockey semifinal.

Channy Johnson and Alexis Adams added a goal and an assist apiece, Mackenzi Reece also scored and Aubree Dorsey finished with two assists.

The Dukes (17-0) have been dominant on both offense and defense all season, allowing just one goal (to Nansemond River in a 2-1 win).

Nansemond River set up a rematch with the Dukes with an 8-0 win over Menchville in the other region semifinal. Madie Baker finished with two goals, Halle Fago added a goal and an assist and Kirsten Carroll earned the shutout for the Warriors (15-2).

Bulldogs, Dolphins to face off for championsh­ip

The Tidewater Conference of Independen­t Schools field hockey championsh­ip game will feature a familiar matchup as Norfolk Academy and Cape Henry are set to meet again.

The Bulldogs topped Walsingham 11-0 in a semifinal, with Joji Purdy netting five goals and Olivia Galiotos adding a hat trick and four assists. Purdy also had an assist, while Lizzie Adams added two goals and Rachel Thetford also scored.

Cape Henry won its semifinal 6-2 over Catholic and was led by Gabrielle Seifert (two goals) and Livy Wallace (one goal, two assists). Mackenzie White and Kiersten Ruby added a goal and an assist apiece and Gabrielle Beisel also scored for the Dolphins.

The TCIS championsh­ip game will be at 6 p.m. today at the Regional Training Center.

Girls volleyball: Kendall Abercrombi­e had nine kills and seven digs and Morgan Hunter finished with 20 assists and seven aces as York swept Park View 25-20, 25-10, 25-17 in a Class 3 Region A quarterfin­al. Ashley Hunt added 11 kills and Lucy Browning had six kills and two blocks.

Boys volleyball: Cape Henry collected 33 kills, 12 aces, 36 digs, 29 assists and three blocks to beat Peninsula Catholic in straight sets in the Tidewater Conference championsh­ip.

Girls volleyball: Seventh-seeded Poquoson beat No. 2 Windsor in a straight-sets sweep in a Class 2 Region A quarterfin­al. The Islanders were led by Sam Chapman with 10 kills, Lexi Sava with six kills and nine assists and Sophie Young with eight aces, five digs and one kill.

Boys volleyball: Jonas Sosnowski and Owen Cannon combined for 36 kills and Gunner Romsland and Wes Clevenger added a combined 10 kills as Princess Anne defeated Green Run in three sets in a Class 5 Region A quarterfin­al. The Cavaliers’ Nico Santos finished with 50 assists and Connor Stadler added 11 digs.

Boys volleyball: Top-seeded Warwick swept Lakeland in a Class 4 Eastern Section quarterfin­al. Dylan Harris, Calvin Griffiths, McKyle Carney and Anvei Brown combined for 40 kills and Jamarhe Willis added six aces.

Boys volleyball: Kody Rogan had 33 assists, six kills, three blocks and 10 digs and Phillip Van Essendelft added 18 kills, three aces and five digs as Hickory defeated Kempsville in straight sets in a Class 5 Region A quarterfin­al.
