LeBron to miss week with abdominal strain

LeBron James didn’t play in the Lakers’ game against the Thunder on Thursday night because of an abdominal strain that reportedly could keep him out at least a week.

James and the Lakers are taking a “cautionary” approach with the 19-year veteran, knowing that the forward “could be out longer or could return sooner.” He aggravated the injury Tuesday.

James, who turns 37 next month, missed two games last week with right ankle soreness.

Baseball: Reds All-Star OF Nick Castellano­s opted out of his contract and entered free agency. Castellano­s, 29, hit .309 with 34 HRs and led the Reds with 100 RBIs last season.

College football: ESPN reported that Georgia, No. 1 in the first CFP rankings released Tuesday, indefinite­ly suspended starting LB Adam Anderson, who has been accused of raping a woman. Police in Athens are investigat­ing the allegation.

Golf: Matthew Wolff shot an opening-round 10-under 61 to match his PGA Tour career low and take a two-shot lead at the World Wide Technology Championsh­ip in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

NFL: QB Dak Prescott will start for the Cowboys against the Broncos. Prescott sat out last week’s win over the Vikings with a calf strain . ... WR Davante Adams returned to the Packers after missing 10 days while on the COVID list and should be available for the team’s game against the Chiefs.

NHL: Coach Mike Sullivan missed the Penguins’ game against the Flyers after testing positive for COVID-19. Assistant coach Todd Reirden filled in for Sullivan, who’s symptomati­c and likely will be out several days under the league’s protocol. The Penguins have had eight players enter the protocol since mid-September, including captain Sidney Crosby and D Marcus Pettersson, Brian Dumoulin and Chad Ruhwedel this week.
