Hampton 70, Regent 56: Najee Garvin and Raymond Bethea Jr. combined for 39 points for HU.

The host Pirates (2-0), coming off a season-opening victory over Mid-Atlantic Christian, beat their second consecutiv­e lower-echelon foe despite 1-of-20 3-point shooting. They were 23 of 31 on free throws, including 8 of 10 by Garvin and 11 of 12 by Bethea. Dajour Dickens blocked six shots in 16 minutes.

For Regent, Andrew Aiken had 18 points and seven rebounds. N.C. State 77, Colgate 74: Lake Taylor High alum Dereon Seabron hit two free throws with two seconds left to lift the Wolfpack.

Tucker Richardson pulled the Raiders even at 74 with 11 seconds left with a 3-pointer, but Seabron drew a foul and hit two shots. Ebenezer Dowuona sank another free throw for the final margin.

Virginia transfer Casey Morsell and Seabron scored 22 and 21 points, respective­ly, to lead the Wolfpack (2-0). Seabron added 10 rebounds and three assists. Wagner 58, VCU 44: Alex Morales scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Seahawks (2-0), who outrebound­ed the younger Rams 42-24 and upset VCU (1-1) at Siegel Center.

No. 9 Duke 67, Campbell 56: Four Blue Devils scored in double figures. Paolo Banchero led Duke (3-0) with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting and had seven rebounds.

WOMEN

Christophe­r Newport 113, Goucher 42: The Captains (4-0), ranked 20th nationally by d3hoops.com, won both of their games in the inaugural Baltimore-area Renie Amoss Tip-Off Classic. CNU has won 21 games in a row, dating to December 2019. The streak includes the 2020 NCAA Division III tourney, which went unfinished because of pandemic concerns.

Five CNU players reached double figures, with junior Katy Rader notching a career-high 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Rookie Hannah Orloff had 17 points, eight rebounds, five blocks and four steals in 17 minutes of play. Richmond 96, Hampton 47: The Spiders (1-1) dusted the Pirates (1-2) at the HU Convocatio­n Center.

Hampton struggled to a 15-for62 shooting game, though Madison Buford had 11 points and Nylah Young 10 for the Pirates.
