Green Run alum guides Longwood past American

Green Run High alum DeShaun Wade had 14 points and Leslie Nkereuwen scored 15 off the bench Friday as the Longwood Lancers routed American 82-40 in Farmville.

Longwood (3-1) shot 54% (34 of 63), including 54.5% (12 of 22) from 3-point range. American (2-2) hit 34% (18 of 53) overall and 13% (3 of 23) from long distance.

Iona 54, Liberty 50: Nelly Junior Joseph had 14 points and 12 rebounds as coach Rick Pitino’s Gaels (4-0) overcame the Flames (1-2) in New Rochelle, New York.

Liberty took a 50-46 lead on Darius McGhee’s layup with 3:35 to go but never scored again. McGhee had 12 points and Kyle Rode added 11, and Blake Preston had eight points and seven rebounds.

Two Joseph free throws put Iona ahead 51-50 at the 1:49 mark, and he hit two more with 10 seconds remaining. McGhee missed a 3-pointer with 2 seconds left, and Elijah Joiner hit a free throw for the final point.

No. 22 St. Bonaventur­e 68, Clemson 65: Kyle Lofton and Jaren Holmes combined for 32 points in the second half as the Bonnies rallied from a 16-point deficit in a Charleston Classic semifinal.

St. Bonaventur­e earned the right to face Marquette or West Virginia for the championsh­ip Sunday.

After the Bonnies’ top two scorers went 3 of 15 in the first half and made only one 3-pointer between them, the pair combined to shoot 9 of 14 in the second half, all but one of those buckets coming from 3-point range.

Lofton finished with 22 points and Holmes 19. Jalen Adaway had nine of his 14 points in the first half, when the Bonnies fell behind by as many as 16.

Clemson’s PJ Hall matched his career high with 22 points, David Collins had 14 and Nick Honor 12.

Trailing 51-37, the Bonnies (4-0) went on a 21-2 run that included five 3-pointers in taking their first lead since it was 2-0.

The Tigers (4-1) tied the game on a drive by Honor with two minutes left. Holmes hit a 3-pointer before Hunter Tyson answered with a basket. Holmes was denied on a drive, but Tyson missed on another 3-point attempt. Lofton grabbed the rebound and made two free throws for a three-point edge with 19.8 seconds left. Honor missed a tough 3-point chance from the baseline as time ran out.
