Fred Christian France
Fred Christian “Bud” France of Newport News, Virginia, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2021, surrounded by his loved ones. After journeying through cancer, he was able to go home and watch beautiful sunsets of the James River with his best friend and wife, Willa. He was born August 11, 1943, in Illinois. He was a graduate of Oak Lawn High School and furthered his studies at Olivet University, Northwestern University, and Ohio State University. He served two years in the United States Army and volunteered with the Honor Guard. He enjoyed a career in radio and television broadcasting and sales. In his retirement years, he worked proudly at the Better Business Bureau. His passion was studying the Civil War, collecting artifacts, visiting the hallowed battlefields, and participating in re-enactments. He was also very proud of being a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America. He is survived by many loved ones including his wife Willa, his children Todd France, Dana France Johnston (Neil), Seth France, his brother Brad France (Loretta), and his four grandchildren Camden, Payten, Ryan, Kellen. He was also loved by his four stepchildren, grandchildren, and great grandchildren whom affectionately called him “Pops.” He was predeceased by his parents Fred and Hilma France.
A memorial service will be held at Altmeyer Funeral Homes Riverside Chapel on December 4, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and please consider making a blood donation with the local Red Cross.
