The passing of Virginia H. Soter, age 96, occurred at her home, Saturday, November 27, 2021. Virginia, casually referred to as “Ginny” was born on

March 22, 1925 and raised on Maple Hill Farm by her mother, Clara Hodges, along with her sisters, Ruth and Frances in Putnam County, West Virginia.

Ginny attended Hurricane High School, graduating in 1942. She completed undergraduate studies at Marshall College in Huntington, West Virginia in 1945. Throughout her years in school, Ginny assisted at Summer Camps situated in the counties near her home with enthusiasm, compassion and affection for all the children who attended. She later would teach in small communities in the coal mining counties.

Ginny continued her education by attaining a Masters Degree in Home Economics from Drexel University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

When teaching at Salem Women's College, Ginny was introduced on a blind date to A.W. “Buck” Soter. They were married in October, 1954 and established a home in Newport News later to be filled with children for whom Virginia and Buck devoted their time and unconditional love and support.

Virginia was committed to parochial school for all her children from fundraising to school boards. Virginia also served as a leader and with administration with the Regional Colonial Chapter of Girls Scouts.

Soter, Cierra Lane and Christian Lane. Aunt Ginny is also survived by many nieces and nephews who she cherished. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Soter; her infant son, James Matthew Soter and grandson, Anthony Preston Soter.
