Prized prospects to join Tides

Catcher Rutschman will return; pitcher Hall to make debut

-

Norfolk fans soon will get to see two of the Baltimore Orioles’ top prospects with the Tides — catcher Adley Rutschman and pitcher DL Hall.

Rutschman, ranked as the No. 2 prospect in baseball by MLB.com, batted .312 with five home runs and 20 RBIs in 43 games with the Tides last season after being promoted from the Double-A Bowie Baysox. He is coming back from a right triceps strain he incurred in spring training.

Rutschman, 24, began the season on the Tides’ injured list, started a rehabilitation assignment with High-A Aberdeen on April 26 and was assigned to Bowie on Tuesday. He batted 5 for 12 (.417) in his three games for Bowie, including a 2-for-4 day with a walk in Thursday’s loss to Harrisburg.

Hall, ranked as the 88th-best

prospect in baseball according to MLB.com, will make his Triple-A debut with the Tides. On Thursday for Bowie, he gave up two runs on three hits in 3 ⅔ innings, walking one and striking out six.

The 23-year-old left-hander from Valdosta, Georgia, was the 21st overall pick of the 2017 draft, but he missed much of last season because of a stress reaction in his left elbow after going 2-0 with a 3.13 ERA in seven starts spanning 31 innings in 2021.

This year, Hall joined Aberdeen on April 29, and Thursday was his only appearance for the Baysox.

On Wednesday night, the Tides fell to the Nashville Sounds 4-2 as Jon Singleton and Mark Mathias homered and drove in two runs each at First Horizon Park in Nashville.

The Sounds (17-8) evened the series at a game apiece, while the Tides (13-13) have dropped eight of 10. Norfolk is 2-6 on its 12-game trip.

Tides left fielder Robert Neustrom extended his hitting streak to nine games with a solo homer, his fifth long ball of the season.

The teams were scheduled to play the third game of the series Thursday night. Game 4 is set for 7:35 p.m. today.
