7 Cities Pro-Am league is back

Eight teams to feature mostly region players

- By Sonny Dearth

Area hoops fans can rejoice this month as the Hampton Roads 7 Cities Pro Am Summer Basketball League will return this weekend for the first time since 2019.

All games will be held at the Norview High gym in Norfolk.

If all goes to plan, four games per day will be held on the first three Sundays this month, and the playoffs and championship game will be contested July 31. Eight teams are lined up, six of whose rosters were published on social media this week by league CEO James Flood Jr.

Current Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas, who is on the Next Season roster, Norfolk State star Joe Bryant Jr., who is on the Harvey Lindsay roster, and pro guard Marcus Evans, who spent last season with the Bristol Flyers of the British Basketball League and is on the Love Yours team, are among the prominent players who could compete.

A few dozen current or former college competitors in the area also have signed up. Many, if not most, of the players grew up in Hampton Roads.
