Get over it

Re “It takes two” (Your Views, June

30): Some of the opinion pieces, like this one, state abortion has been banned. That statement is not true. Roughly half of the states still allow abortions. Also, if the single man should be “fixed” as the writer wants; the single woman should be “fixed” to stop her from getting pregnant again. The Supreme Court ruling sends the issue to the states. Each state/commonwealth can decide how to handle the issue of abortion.

The framers in the Constitution state, and I am paraphrasing, all power not given to the federal government, rests with the states. They did not want a federal government acting like the king they just rid themselves of. They knew a one-sizefits-all cookie-cutter approach was not the best way to govern a country. Nowhere in the Constitution is abortion mentioned. Forget the “life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness” clause, as that applies to the unborn child just as much as the mother. If not, why do states have laws charging a person who kills a pregnant woman with two murders?

As for guns, this is actually a right listed. The Second Amendment allows for the right to keep and bear arms. Forget the assault rifle talking point. Cannons were the assault weapon of the time, and as far as I know anyone could own one. Thankfully, we now have a Supreme Court that actually reads the Constitution and ruled as the Constitution was written. You liberals, need to take a breath and realize the world is not going to come to an end just because you cannot kill unborn children in every state on demand, but only the 20 or so where abortion is still legal.
