Rain shortens program

Carter, Flinn, Wyatt come out victorious

-

Despite starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, an hour earlier than normal, to try to beat Mother Nature, Langley Speedway officials saw much of their program scrapped because of stormy weather in Hampton.

Matt Carter, Stephen Flinn and Dannie Wyatt earned victories before the program’s abandonment, though. All tickets for Saturday will be honored for the July 30 races.

Next week, the featured event will be the annual Hampton Heat Late Model showdown.

Modified: Because of weather, only one of the two planned twin 30-lap races was held. Carter took the pole, then survived a late restart to beat runner-up Brad Adams by 1.644 seconds over 30 laps and add to his season points lead.

Rick Gdovic was third, 2.31 seconds behind the winner. Twelve of the 15 drivers finished on the lead lap.

Champ Kart: Pole starter

Dannie Wyatt edged Trace Wyatt by 81-thousandths of a second for a 20-lap victory, and Jeffrey Johnson was another 81-thousandths behind in third place among 12 drivers. The race took about 7 minutes, 20 seconds.

It was Dannie Wyatt’s second victory of the year. He slightly narrowed the gap on Trace, who came into the evening with a fivepoint lead for the season.

Enduro: In about seven minutes, Flinn won a 20-lap race that originally was scheduled for 40. Already holding a commanding lead in the standings, he overcame Alex Floroff by 0.298 of a second, and Chris Kane placed third in a 25-driver field.

Also: Dale Nichols claimed the Super Street pole over Jimmy Adkins. Travis Wall took the Pro Six pole.
