Tides pitchers lose control as Nashville takes series opener

- Staff report

Norfolk pitcher DL Hall struggled for the second straight start, giving up home runs to Keston Hiura, Mario Feliciano and Weston Wilson in the Nashville Sounds’ 8-3 victory over the Tides before 4,014 fans Tuesday night at Harbor Park.

It was the Tides’ first home game since July 17. They have gone 2-7 since the All-Star break to fall to 46-53.

Nashville improved the International League’s best record to 60-39.

Hall (2-6) allowed six runs — five earned — on six hits in four innings. He struck out four, but had control issues and walked five. In his previous outing on July 26, he gave up six runs in

of an inning.

The Tides’ bullpen also struggled with control. Five relievers combined for six walks, and the 11 for the game matched a season high.

Shortstop Gunnar Henderson was one of Norfolk’s few bright spots. He went 2 for 5 with two runs to extend his hitting streak to 13 games, matching a season high for the team.

Kyle Stowers hit an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning — extending his hitting streak to seven games — and a run-scoring groundout in the sixth to account for two of the Tides’ runs. Rylan Bannon’s sacrifice fly in the eighth plated

the other run.

Nashville scored two runs in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings to take an 8-1 lead.

Sounds starter Caleb Boushley (11-2), who leads the IL in wins, allowed a run on two hits in five innings. He struck out three and walked two.

Game 2 of the series was set for Wednesday night and Game 3 is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. today. It will be a Happy Hour night with $2 beers.
