Reeves takes rare TV role in thriller

-

Keanu Reeves will star in a TV adaptation of “The Devil in the White City,” the bestselling nonfiction thriller about ambition, a killer and the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago.

Reeves will portray Daniel H. Burnham, an architect “trying to make his mark on history” with his designs for the fair, Hulu said in announcing the limited series Thursday. The other central role, that of convicted murderer Dr. H.H. Holmes, has yet to be cast.

Erik Larson’s novelisticstyle account of the fair — formally called the World’s Columbian Exposition — was published in 2003.

Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio and Reeves are among the series’ producers. There was no word of an on-screen role for DiCaprio in the project, and its release date was not announced.

Reeves has worked almost exclusively in films, including the “Matrix” and “John Wick” franchises. He took an excursion into TV with “Swedish Dicks,” a 2016-18 comedy series about Swedish private eyes in which Reeves made brief appearances.

‘Flash’ on track despite Miller allegations:

The DC film universe is in the middle of a shakeup, but unscathed from the fallout is “The Flash,” starring the embattled Ezra Miller.

Two days after the news that Warner Bros. Discovery had decided to scrap release plans for “Batgirl,” Chief Executive David Zaslav seemed to suggest that the film centered on the speedster will continue to move along for its June 2023 release.

“We have seen ‘The Flash,’ ‘Black Adam’ and ‘Shazam 2.’ We think they are terrific, and we think we can make them even better,” Zaslav said during

the media company’s earnings call Thursday.

“The Flash” features Miller in its titular role. This year, Miller was arrested twice in Hawaii and faced a protective order after being accused of “psychologically manipulating, physically intimidating and endangering the safety and welfare” of an 18-year-old in North Dakota.

Lady A postpones tour:

Country trio Lady A has announced that its tour is being postponed to allow band member Charles Kelley time to focus on his sobriety. The group was set to start the tour on Aug. 13 in Nashville, Tennessee, but in a social media post, the band — composed of Kelley, Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood — said the

tour would be delayed until next year.

“Right now, in order to be the healthiest, strongest and most creative band we can be, Lady A will take the time with the support of our families and team of professionals to walk through this together,” the band’s statement said.

‘Chicago’ to welcome Ross:

“Pose” star Angelica Ross is set to make her Broadway debut in “Chicago” this fall, becoming the first openly transgender actor to play the murderous vixen Roxie Hart in the long-running musical. Ross will start an eight-week run beginning Sept. 12. Set in the 1920s, “Chicago” is a scathing satire of how show business and the media make celebrities out of criminals
