VIRGINIA BEACH — Tyler Noe is a former Cox High football player and has been a coach in the program for more than a decade.

This week, the Falcons promoted him to head football coach.

Noe takes over a program where he learned from previous coaches Bill Stachelski and Alan Faneca, who stepped down. Faneca led the Falcons to a 16-8 record in two seasons — including 9-3 last season — and guided them to the playoffs both seasons.

“Coach Stack took a chance on me right out of college to come back and help coach JV,” said Noe, a 2006 graduate. “I thought it was a pipe dream to take over the varsity head coaching job. But by the grace of God, that’s the position that I’m in. I’m very excited about taking over the program. I’ve coached under two great coaches. I learned great things from both of them. We have a great group of kids and a great coaching staff, and a great administration. I really look forward to seeing what we can do in the future here at Cox High School.”

Cox has missed the postseason only twice since 2008, and the Falcons haven’t had a losing record since 2007. Noe’s goal is to get the Falcons into the region championship game to earn a state tournament berth.

“We know we can be a playoff team, and that’s our expectation is to be a playoff team every year,” he said. “And I don’t foresee that not being the case with me taking over. I just want to take us to that next step. We’re always right there. We want to be playing the day after Thanksgiving.”

Cox athletic director Jessica Bowman said she’s looking forward to Noe taking over the program.

“He has been with our program as a coach in some capacity for the last 12 years,” she said. “Tyler and I work well together and I am excited to see the continued success of the football program under his leadership. He coached under both Coach Stack and Coach Faneca, so I am looking forward to seeing what takeaways he took from each of their coaching styles.”
