Texas Tech stuns Iowa St.

-

Texas Tech erased a 23-point deficit after halftime Monday night for its first Big 12 win of the season, with De’Vion Harmon scoring all 16 of his points after the break in an 80-77 overtime home victory against No. 13 Iowa State in Lubbock.

The Red Raiders have struggled, especially in Big 12 play, after reaching the NCAA Sweet 16 a year ago.

Texas Tech trailed 59-36 with 12:36 remaining after one of Caleb Grill’s career-best eight 3-pointers.

Texas Tech (12-10, 1-8 Big 12) began a 20-3 run not long after that to make it close down the stretch. Grill scored 24 points, but had one of three misses from deep in a frantic final sequence with the Cyclones (15-6, 6-3) trying to force a second overtime.

No. 10 Texas 76, No. 11 Baylor 71:

Sir’Jabari Rice scored 21 points and Timmy Allen added 19 in Austin as Texas ended Baylor’s six-game win streak. The Longhorns (18-4, 7-2) kept a share of first place in the Big 12.

Rice made four 3-pointers in the second half, and his two free throws with 16 seconds left put Texas ahead by five. LJ Cryer scored 19 points for Baylor (16-6, 5-4) to lead four Bears in double figures.

Women

No. 3 LSU 76, Tennessee 68: Alexis Morris scored a career-high 31 points as LSU (21-0, 9-0 SEC) won in Baton Rouge to extend its all-time best start and all-time longest winning streak.

Jordan Walker scored 19 points and Rickea Jackson had 17 for Tennessee (16-8, 8-1). The Lady Vols lost for the first time in SEC play and have lost two straight overall, but both of those recent losses came against top-five teams — the other to Connecticut.
