Hampton adds five recruits, W&M one

- By Marty O’Brien

William & Mary mostly stayed put, adding only one player to the 13-player recruiting class it signed in December. Hampton University reached 13 recruits when it announced five additions to its eight-man class in December.

One of the Pirates’ recruits, Miles Posey, a defensive end from Yorktown, is already on campus as an early enrollee. Posey, a 6-foot3, 260-pound sophomore, played for the University of Charlotte last season.

Pirates coach Robert Prunty sees him as a possible replacement for NFL hopeful KeShaun Moore.

“He’s a guy with very aggressive hands and great leverage,” Prunty said of Posey, who played his freshman and sophomore high school seasons at Grafton before transferring to Richmond-area private school Life Christian Academy. “We’re looking for a dynamic pass rusher and like that he has FBS experience.”

Prunty also stayed local in signing Jahzari Priester, a 6-8, 260-pound lineman from Western Branch in Chesapeake. Priester earned all-state and All-Tidewater recognition in helping the Bruins reach the Class 6 state semifinals.

“Jahzari has size and strength that make him a great addition to our program,” Prunty said of Priester, who had offers from VMI and Delaware among other schools.

Sticking in the trenches, the Pirates added two more defensive linemen, both from North Carolina. Saint Farrior, 6-3, 320 pounds, played for Hillside of Durham, while Nhycer Kelly, 6-3, 285, comes from Reidsville.

“His size, strength and athletic ability make him a great addition to our defensive line,” Prunty said of Kelly, who had 40 tackles for loss among his 158 stops last season. “Farrior brings great size and talent.”

With All-CAA receiver Jadakis Bonds making waves this week at the Senior Bowl, the Pirates must shore up the wide receiver position. Prunty hopes Midlothian’s Ty’ee Stephens, 6-2, 185 pounds, helps.

Stephens had 1,500 all-purpose yards and 17 touchdowns last season. He chose Hampton over Liberty and several CAA schools.

William & Mary’s lone recruit is Sascha Garcia, a 6-2, 190-pound defensive back from Potomac High in Maryland. Garcia made the Maryland all-state team and received Washington Post All-Met honorable mention recognition.
