Linda Godwin Birdsong

- Please sign guestbook at dailypress.com/obituaries

Linda (Kay) Godwin Birdsong, 74, of Hampton, Virginia was reunited with the love of her life, Milton, on Valentine’s Day 2023. Her friends knew her as Kay, but to her grand and great grandchildren she was Nanny, a name she viewed as one of her greatest accomplishments. Kay was born on June 13, 1948, and lived most of her life in Hampton, except for a 14 year stay in the Outer Banks of North Carolina where she was a proud member of Lighthouse Church. Her heart was always in the mountains of Tennessee, though, where much of her extended family still reside. Kay had a long career at VEPCO and even transitioned with the company to Virginia Natural Gas, where she retired in 1999. She was a member of Fox Hill Central United Methodist Church and a 1966 graduate of Kecoughtan High School in Hampton, Virginia, where she served on the reunion committee.

She was preceded in death by her husband Milton Birdsong, her parents; Carrie Thelma Godwin Robinson & William Odell Godwin, and her brother Gerald Godwin.

She is survived by her two sons Michael (Leslie) and Mark (Carole). She also leaves behind her grandchildren; Kayla, her husband Austin, and their children, Avery and Abigail Mason; Katie, her husband Thomas, and their children, Jaxon and Karter Denardi; as well as Mark, Matthew, Nicholas, Christopher, and Hannah. She is also survived by her sisters Sheila and her husband Robert Skeps, Terrie and her husband John Fuller, and her baby brother Steven and his wife Colleen Godwin.

The family will receive visitors at noon on March 4, 2023 at Fox Hill Central United Methodist Church with a celebration of life beginning at 1 pm followed by a reception in the church social hall where we be able to tell her we "love you more". In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her honor to Fox Hill Central United Methodist Church at 501 Beach Road, Hampton, VA 23664.
