VWU rolls into ODAC quarterfin­als

Jordan Crump scored 21 points, Amarion Wilson added 18 and No. 7 seed Virginia Wesleyan shot 48.4% to rout No. 10 seed Shenandoah 80-52 in an ODAC Tournament first-round game Tuesday night in Virginia Beach.

The Marlins (17-8) advanced to the quarterfin­als, where they will face No. 2 seed Hampden-Sydney at 6 p.m. Friday in Salem.

Amari Moorer contribute­d 11 points for WVU, while Eric Rowland had seven along with 15 rebounds.

VWU got more than half its points in the paint (44), which boosted its shooting percentage. The Hornets (7-19) managed only 28 points in the paint and shot 33.9%.

Joshua Stephen paced Shenandoah with 17 points.

REGION/STATE VCU 88, Saint Joseph’s 63:

Jayden Nunn scored a career-high 31 points to lead VCU (21-7, 12-3 Atlantic 10) over Saint Joseph’s (13-15, 7-9) in Philadelph­ia.

Nunn went 12 for 13 from the field, including 7 for 7 from beyond the arc. Jalen DeLoach added 19 points for the Rams.

Richmond 81, Saint Louis 78: Tyler Burton scored 20 points to help Richmond (14-14, 7-8 Atlantic 10) defeat Saint Louis (18-10, 10-5) at home.

East Carolina 62, Tulsa 60: Jaden Walker scored 24 points and visiting East Carolina (14-13, 5-9 American Athletic) beat Tulsa (5-22, 1-15) to hand the Golden Hurricanes their ninth straight loss.

TOP25 No. 8 Texas 72, No. 23 Iowa State 54:

Sir’Jabari Rice and Tyrese Hunter each scored 15 points and Texas (22-6, 11-4) raced away from Iowa State (17-10, 8-7) with a big first half to earn a home win that kept the Longhorns at the top of the Big 12.

Texas is tied with No. 3 Kansas for first place with three games left in the regular season. The Longhorns haven’t won even a share of the league crown since 2008.

No. 14 Kansas State 75, No. 9 Baylor 65:

Former Norview High star Keyontae Johnson scored 25 points, Markquis Nowell added 14 points and 10 assists and Kansas State (21-7, 9-6 Big 12) followed a long first-half slump with a big second-half run to beat Baylor (20-8, 9-6) at home.

Keyonte George scored 23 points for Baylor.

No. 10 Marquette 73, No. 19 Creighton 71:

Tyler Kolek’s short jump shot gave Marquette (22-6, 14-3) the lead with 29 seconds left and the Golden Eagles took a huge step toward the Big East regular-season title with a win over Creighton (18-10, 12-5) in Omaha, Nebraska.

The Golden Eagles saw a 10-point lead with eight minutes left evaporate before Kolek came up big during a wild finish before a sellout crowd at CHI Health Center.

No. 25 Texas A&M 68, No. 11 Tennessee 63:

Wade Taylor IV scored 25 points, including four free throws down the stretch,

and Texas A&M (21-7, 13-2 SEC) extended its winning streak to six games with a victory over Tennessee (20-8, 9-6) in College Station.

The Aggies are off to their best start since joining the SEC in the 2012-13 season.

Villanova 64, No. 16 Xavier 63: Justin Moore scored 25 points to give Villanova (14-14, 8-9 Big East) a win at Xavier (20-8, 12-5 Big East) for its biggest victory under first-year head coach Kyle Neptune.

No. 22 San Diego State 77, Colorado State 58:

Jaedon LeDee scored 14 points and Matt Bradley scored 10 of his 13 in the first four minutes of the second half for host San Diego State (22-5, 13-2 Mountain West), which overwhelme­d Colorado State (12-16, 4-11) for its fifth straight win.

ACC Pittsburgh 76, Georgia Tech 68:

Nelly Cummings scored 22 points and Blake Hinson had 19 as Pittsburgh (20-8, 13-4) beat Georgia Tech (11-17, 3-14) at home.

SERVICE ACADEMY Fresno State 74, Air Force 69:

Eduardo Andre had 26 points as Fresno State (10-17, 6-10 Mountain West) defeated Air Force (14-15, 5-11) in Colorado Springs.

TOP 1 0 WOMEN St. John’s 69, No. 4 UConn 64:

Danielle Patterson and Kadaja Bailey each scored 20 points and St. John’s (20-7, 11-7 Big East) beat UConn (24-5, 16-2) in Hartford.

St. John’s added a huge win to its NCAA Tournament resume, beating UConn for the first time in 11 years.

No. 7 Maryland 96, No. 6 Iowa 68:

Brinae Alexander scored a season-high 24 points and matched a career best with six 3-pointers, and host Maryland (23-5, 14-3 Big Ten) handed Caitlin Clark and Iowa (22-6, 14-3) their worst loss of the season.

Iowa’s loss clinched the Big Ten regular-season title for No. 2 Indiana.

Clark had 18 points, her second lowest-scoring game of the season.
