Davis Warren Cartwright IV

- Please sign guestbook at dailypress.com/obituaries

Davis, an Edenton, North Carolina boy, was born on July 13, 1946 to Davis Warren Ill and Kate Perry Cartwright and raised with two sisters, Faye and Judy, and a brother Jesse. A follower of Jesus and an Assembly of God churchgoer, his life throughout was centered on things of the Lord. Serving as a deacon/elder, age 23 to 63 for forty years at Bethel Temple church, Hampton, his focus was always on taking care of God's church, foreign missions (ig. Zimbabwe, China), and winning souls to Christ. In 1964 beginning at the Apprentice School, he started his 47-year NN shipyard career, joining Production Control, eventually Submarine Overhaul, and retired in Carriers in 2012. In 1967 he found the other half of his heart, Joy(ce) Shelton, and they raised four beautiful children together who later gave them eleven grandchildren: Julie Cartwright Beach (Keller, Morgan), Davis Warren Cartwright V (wife Teri) (Savannah, Sydney, Summer), Duane Mark Cartwright (wife Lauren) (Brad, Todd, Katie), and Bryan Wade Cartwright (wife Mandy) (Kayla, Brett, Kameryn). Davis could do, was interested in, EVERYTHING! Through the years, he renovated and built houses, cabinets and barns, fixed cars and household appliances, and created whatever was needed to get the job done. If someone needed information or connections, they called Davis. His mind stored information for years to come. He delighted in helping his kids and enjoyed any way to spend time with them. His 21member family often shared summer trips to OBX, vacations, graduations, birthday celebration and Sunday dinners were held at their favorite gathering place, his home at Chisman Creek. For the last 10 years as a member of Coastal Church in Yorktown, Davis enjoyed serving in the Prayer Ministry and his Small Group, grateful for lasting friendships formed with this vibrant on the move church family. What a total GIFT to have shared life with you, his friends and acquaintances, along the way-it was his pure joy to walk alongside each of you. My beloved Davis-the other half of my heart--will be forever missed. Services will be conducted at Coastal Community Church 101 Village Ave., Yorktown VA 23693. Visitation will start at 12:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life, and an Interment at 3:00 PM.
