Old Dominion (5-1) won its fifth consecutiv­e game, defeating Fordham 10-6 with a seven-run fifth inning in a series opener in Norfolk. Luke Waters had three hits and three RBIs, Camden Grimes was 2 for 4 and scored twice and Thomas Wheeler was 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs.

William & Mary (3-3) smashed Marist 16-4 in a series opener, giving Tribe coach Mike McRae a happy birthday. Max Winters was 3 for 5 with five RBIs, Joe Delossanto­s was 2 for 3 with five runs and Ben Williamson was 2 for 2 with four runs and three RBIs.

Freshman Josh Reinhold’s RBI single in the bottom of the ninth gave Christophe­r Newport (8-0) an 8-7 victory over Rochester (0-1) at the D3 Showcase in Kannapolis, North Carolina. The Captains overcame a five-run deficit.

Winner Coleman Picard struck out 12 in five innings as Bryant defeated No. 14 Virginia Tech 7-3 in a series opener before 1,235 in Blacksburg. Ocean Lakes High alum Carson DeMartini hit an RBI double for the Hokies (3-2).

No. 19 Virginia beat Columbia 4-1 in Game 1 of a doublehead­er in Charlottes­ville to improve to 5-0. Nick Parker struck out six in six innings for the victory, and Ethan Anderson, a sophomore from Cox High, had two hits and a run.

Reigning NCAA Division III champion Eastern Connecticu­t State, ranked seventh in the preseason poll, swept Virginia Wesleyan 10-5, 8-4 in a doublehead­er. In Game 1 for the Marlins, Matt Sinko hit a home run and Jake Ness had two hits and scored twice.

Apprentice School (5-1) swept Allegany College of Maryland 4-1, 6-4 at War Memorial Stadium in Hampton. In Game 1, Nick Redman struck out 10 and pitched a seven-inning one-hitter. In Game 2, Isaac McCalliste­r scored twice, and he, Camden Weston and Jeremy Harmon each had two hits for Apprentice.
