Churchland’s Hillman signs with Michigan
It didn’t take Churchland High football star Brandyn Hillman long to make his college decision.
One week after he announced that he had reopened his recruitment after being granted a release from his national letter of intent to Notre Dame, the dynamic playmaker signed with Michigan following a trip to Ann Arbor over the weekend.
Hillman posted this tweet on his Twitter account following his official visit to the school from March 17-19.
Hillman, a senior, signed with Notre Dame in December.
“Due to personal reasons, I have asked for and been granted my release from my NLI with Notre Dame,” Hillman wrote this week on Twitter and Instagram. “I would like to thank Coach [Marcus] Freeman and the Notre Dame staff for their interest. I ask you to respect my privacy and my family’s privacy as I explore my options on where to attend school this fall.”
Hillman made his announcement March 13, and by the following night, he had posted that Michigan, Virginia, Virginia Tech, LSU, Louisville, Wisconsin and Ohio State were among the schools to make him new scholarship offers.
In a tweet from Michigan football, the Wolverines announced that Hillman was “A big addition to our secondary.”
Hillman had just one Division I offer — from Norfolk State — before his senior season. But he shot up recruiting charts after guiding the Truckers to a playoff berth for a second consecutive season.
Hillman threw for 1,312 yards and 11 touchdowns and rushed for 1,236 yards and 22 touchdowns during his senior season. He repeated as the Class 4 Region A Offensive Player of the Year and was named a second-team all-region pick at defensive back and punter. Hillman finished his high school career with more than 6,000 all-purpose yards.
