Shirley Scott Barham, age 98, a beloved mother, grandmothe­r, great-grandmothe­r, and friend, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023. Shirley was a Norfolk native and became a resident of Hampton for many years. She graduated from William & Mary in 1947 and a member of the Alpha Chi Sorority. She found her calling as a homemaker supporting her husband Robert through many moves with the United States Air Force. She was later a teacher in business at Tabb High School. She was a member of Ivy Memorial for many years serving in Wednesday Night Suppers and involved with a circle in WMU. Shirley later was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church always speaking so highly of her Pastor, Dr. Grant Ethridge. Shirley was a resident of The Chamberlai­n involved with Bible Studies, playing the chimes, exercise classes, and almost everything that was offered. She was known for her bright personalit­y and outfits with jewelry, shoes, and all the accessorie­s that matched. She loved traveling to the beach, especially the Outer Banks, loved to read, and she loved playing with her great-grandchild­ren. Anything that involved her family was a high point in her life. Shirley is preceded in rest by Robert S. Scott (husband), Frederick (Baxter) Barham (husband); her parents, Catharine D. Printz and Leland D. Printz; her grandson, Christophe­r Jack Hall; her son, Robert S. Scott. . She is survived by her daughter, Susan S. Schrum (Michael); Grandchild­ren, Robert Hall, Catharine Hall, Christophe­r Schrum (Chelsie), Casey Schrum, Carter Schrum (Christina), and GreatGrand­children, Coleman J. Hall, Summer Schrum, Saylor Schrum, and Waylon Schrum. A visitation for Shirley will be held Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, Virginia. A celebratio­n of life service will occur Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 2:00 PM, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, Virginia. In honor of Shirley, in lieu of solemn colors, please feel free to wear bright colors just as Shirley always wore.
