Warhill moves among elite
Poll’s leading six all are unbeaten
Six public-school football teams remain unbeaten as they head down the regular-season stretch, and all six — Maury, Phoebus, Green Run, Warwick, King’s Fork and Warhill — reside atop the 757Teamz Top 15.
Warhill (7-0) joined the others and leaped to No. 6 after last week’s 35-6 victory over Grafton.
Warwick and King’s Fork are the most likely to be challenged this week, with games against other ranked teams. The Raiders face Hampton on Friday, while King’s Fork hosts Oscar Smith in a game that should go a long way toward deciding the Southeastern District title.
Norfolk Academy, enjoying its best season in decades, has climbed into the top 10 after a 7-0 start.
Staffers Sonny Dearth, Jami Frankenberry, Jim McGrath, Marty O’Brien, Larry Rubama, Michael Sauls and Dylan White voted in the poll. Team, record, first-place votes, total votes and last week’s ranking are included.
