Will of man
Re “Divided” (Your Views, Jan. 9): The author wrote a scathing denunciation of politicians and the free press. He stated that politicians are ruthless, corrupt and power hungry and the press is their lapdog. He ascribes this assessment to abandoning God for a more secular society.
The Founding Fathers envisioned separation of church and state, and the free press as necessary to our survival as a democracy. The free press brings us news of governments internationally, nationally and locally. They disseminate and receive information such as “Divided” openly and freely. I am writing about journalists, of whom 65 were killed in the line of duty in 2023. I am not speaking of the entertainers on Fox News who disseminate conspiracy theories.
The Republicans: Former President Donald Trump, for one, is power hungry, ruthless and corrupt. He has been indicted in four criminal cases, 91 charges. He promoted an insurrection to maintain power and stop the peaceful transfer of power in our democracy. The GOP supports him.
The Democrats: President Joe Biden has not been charged with any criminal violations. He and the Democrats have supported policies for the “common good.” Policies they promote include equal rights, health care, reproductive rights, infrastructure, improving our economy, reducing inflation, addressing climate change, and strengthening our partnerships with our allies.
America still stands for freedom, human rights and the rule of law. This is not about God, but the will of man to do good and be good. There is a clear choice, please vote.
