How to play the Pick 4

- by Kenny Peck

RACE 7:

Last time out, O DIONYSUS was a beaten 2/5 favorite behind High Roller in the Frank Whiteley -- a race which featured four of these same runners -- but he could not have had a much more difficult trip, rank and steadying behind horses for much of the running and even lacking room behind the eventual winner for a time in the lane. Expecting big improvement here with a clean trip (1).

RACE 8:

DOUBLE WHAMMY loves this strip. SOUPER LUCKY has been away nearly a year but he's another who does his best work at Laurel. TURCO BRAVO had been posting steady Beyers prior to the layoff. PAGE MCKENNEY is also entered in the General George and will be a threat in whichever race in which he runs (4).

RACE 9:

HIGH RIDGE ROAD posted the best Beyer of her career in her first stakes win when last seen; dangerous if she's able to run back to that effort. BY THE MOON was a close 2nd to HIGH RIDGE ROAD in her latest; another short layoff followed but she's no stranger to those. TAKREES comes off a narrow win in the Interborough, and trainer Kiaran McLaughlin excels with last-out winners. CLOTHES FELL OFF, from the same barn, didn't break alertly in the same race but she clearly has room to improve here with a clean getaway (4).

RACE 10:

PAGE MCKENNEY can't win two races on the card but he can win either of the two in which he's entered, including this General George Stakes. He didn't run his best figure last time off the layoff but the slow splits made it tough for him to put up an exceptionally fast final time. IMPERIAL HINT was a game winner against lesser when last seen, and though he meets tougher today he's clearly in top form. STALLWALKIN' DUDE has an experience edge on IMPERIAL HINT and others and he also has some of the best Beyers in the field; easy to like (3).
