Hips to watch at OBS March auction

Here are horses to watch at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. March sale of 2-year-olds in training, based on their pedigrees and the past auction performanc­es of them and their notable family members.

Hip No. 79, ch. c., Speightsto­wn — Pay Lady, by Seeking the Gold, consigned by Top Line Sales, agent.

A full brother to Grade 1 winner Lighthouse Bay, who brought $1.2 million in foal to Tapit at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky selected fall mixed sale. This colt sold to Zayat Stables for $300,000 at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Saratoga select yearling sale.

Hip No. 116, b. f., City Zip — Receiversh­ip, by End Sweep, consigned by Eddie Woods, agent.

Two-time Grade 1 winner and young stallion Palace is a full brother to this filly, who is also a half to stakes-placed Retriever. The extended family includes Grade 2 winner French Park and Grade 3 winner Genre.

Hip No. 126, b. c., War Front — Rehear, by Coronado’s Quest, consigned by Eddie Woods, agent.

Rehear’s seven winners from eight runners include Grade 1 winner Mani Bhavan, Grade 2 winner Hear the Ghost, Grade 1-placed stakes winner Closing Bell, and stakes-placed Dattt Echo. The colt comes from the family of Canadian champion Silken Cat, the dam of Speightsto­wn.

Hip No. 210, gr. or ro. c., Tapit — Spring Free, by Royal Academy, consigned by Eisaman Equine, agent.

Stakes winner Gland Slam Andre is a half-brother to this colt, who was a $425,000 buyback at last year’s Keeneland September yearling sale. His page includes Brazilian champion Verinha and Grade/Group 2 winners Spring Star, Spring House, and Cool Conductor.

Hip No. 275, b. f., Bernardini — Uchitel, by Afleet Alex, consigned by Sequel Bloodstock, agent.

Grade 3 winner Suddenbrea­kingnews is a half-brother to this filly, both from A.P. Indy-line sires. The filly sold for $275,000 at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale and comes from the family of Grade 1 winners Party Cited and Composure, Grade 2 winner Penwith, and Grade 3 winner Ready Set.

Hip No. 509, gr. or ro. c., Tapit — Egg Drop, by Alphabet Soup, consigned by Eddie Woods, agent.

The first foal out of Grade 1 winner Egg Drop, who sold with this colt in utero for $1.9 million at the 2014 Keeneland November breeding stock sale.

Hip 637, gr. or ro. f., Tapit — Keertana, by Johar, consigned by Wavertree Stables, agent.

The second foal out of multiple Grade 3 winner Keertana, who brought $1 million at the 2013 Keeneland January sale of horses of all ages. Full brother Ticonderog­a, a newly minted Grade 3 winner, sold for $850,000 at the 2015 Keeneland September sale.
