BEST BET: RACE 9, PUNTROOSKIE

-

FIRST RACE

KITTEN CANDY showed nothing during a wide trip in his $25K opener, but is eligible to wake up in this $20K contest with blinkers off and Husbands aboard. With bar shoes on, DRINK IN MY HAND is halving in price following a long layoff. My buddy UNCATCHABLE FIRE has been working up a storm for his 9yo debut, and could be the sleeper.

SECOND RACE

Stakes winner GREEN DOCTOR is the class of this $10K starter. She had a good solo five-eighths work under Boulanger the other day. UNSEEN ANGELS lacked room on the turn and early in the lane before ending up third for $25K in her second race off the bench. PRIDDY FAIR looks next best off a victory over $10K conditioned distaffers.

THIRD RACE

DANCE WITH ME BABY just missed after duking it out on the lead in her season debut. She figures to prevail in the front-end battle and the war here with Alderson back in the saddle. GRETNA GRACIE awaited room on the turn after a troubled break before flattening out in her comeback, a race she seemingly needed. HAVEAWONDERFULDAY could hang on for a share after contesting the pace.

FOURTH RACE

AFLEET DOLL has had a break since her fading fifth-place finish as the chalk in a key $25K dirt sprint at Tampa Jan. 20. She worked in Ocala April 18, before a quick five-eighths drill in 1:00.40 here April 28 on the Tapeta, over which she nearly graduated in her debut. MISS BAO TO U placed in two of her last four outings in 2016. Da Silva takes over from the retired Olguin on the erratic 4yo. CONGENIALITY is tagged for the first time after competing exclusively in OS maiden special company last year.

FIFTH RACE

THIRTEEN DIAMONDS trounced $10K NW2 opposition after a lovely stalking trip in her second start off the shelf just eight days ago. She should strike again in this NW3 tilt at the same six-furlong distance, if she can handle the quick return. LADY ST CLEMENTS mounted a mild wide rally for third in a similar spot following a winter vacation April 22. PINCH MY CHEEKS tailed off in the fall, and is probably a race away from peaking, but she could handle the rest.

SIXTH RACE

YES DARLIN dueled for the early lead before drawing clear to capture a six-furlong maiden special after a freshening April 22. That was his first Tapeta excursion, and he could double up in this N1X/optional claimer. Queen’s Plate prospect GUY CABALLERO capped his 2yo campaign by running third in the open Display Stakes. This sevenfurlong sprint should serve as a good tightener for when he moves out to a route. SIGNATURE SPRING, who’s nominated to Saturday’s Queenston Stakes, is surprisingly tagged here for $75K. The stakes winner is shedding the blinkers off a disappointing comeback race, with Contreras subbing for Hernandez, who’s sticking with GUY CABALLERO.

SEVENTH RACE

SWEET ROSE had been idle for nearly a year and a half when she checked in third with the aid of an inside bias April 16. She’s adding Lasix for this longer N1X, and could score going the distance over which she graduated. REAL COAL benefited from the aforementioned bias when a frontrunning second behind the heavily-favored Jennifer Lynnette in her season debut. SWEET CRIMSON also saved ground in the same event. She’s eligible to improve on that sixth-place finish after work-

ing a fast five-eighths on the training track. Toss BELLA FIGURA in the super.

EIGHTH RACE

MONTU beat a future N1X winner at Keeneland and a subsequent stakes winner at Charles Town when he wired the field in the Rushaway Stakes on Turfway’s Polytrack March 25. He’s the speed of this 100-grander, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him go coast-to-coast in his first try for trainer Mike Doyle. TIZ A SLAM rallied four-wide to finish a close fifth when he came off a five-month absence in a two-turn turf stakes at Tampa March 11. The Queen’s Plate Winterbook favorite graduated at first asking on the Tapeta, before winning the allowance prep for the Summer Stakes and the Cup and Saucer Stakes. Reigning Canadian champion male 2yo KING AND HIS COURT is eligible to get back on track following back-to-back doubledigit losses in stakes on dirt and Polytrack in the U.S.

NINTH RACE

PUNTROOSKIE began slowly while getting bumped before racing wide over an inside-favoring track when seventh in the Jacques Cartier Stakes on opening day. That was his first outing in nearly five months, and it should set him up adequately for this tough N3X/optional claimer. COMMUTE rode the aforementioned bias when a prominent second in the six-furlong Jacques Cartier. He was previously third behind champion Stacked Deck and JC winner Pink Lloyd in the G2 Kennedy Road. PASSION FOR ACTION took the long way home after a tardy start when sixth in the JC. This is his third race off the sidelines, and note that he did his optimum running last year in the spring. HOLLYWOOD HIDEAWAY has worked nicely for his return from a winter break, and could join the fray.

TENTH RACE

NOTALONEINHISHEAD had a productive winter stint on the dirt at Tampa, after checking in fourth behind the tough trio of Gentleman Jackson, Winstanley and Phil’s Cocktail here on the Tapeta Nov. 20. WICKSTEAD was competitive on the turf at Gulfstream before using his fitness edge to beat $10K conditioned stock here April 21. BRILLIANT CHARLIE came up empty after fighting for the lead in his return, from which the runner-up exited to beat $10K stock as the chalk. For the bottom of exotics, consider BOLD SUMMIT and EZZTHETIC, who appeared to get stuck in the gate in his botched season opener.
