Malibu Secret Malibu Moon-Ain’t No Tellin’, by Dynaformer

(Bred in Ontario by Sam-Son Farm)

Like many products of the venerable Sam-Son Farm racing and breeding program, Malibu Secret’s ties to the Samuel family’s operation run back through several generations. For Malibu Secret, the link traces to third dam Hangin On a Star, a $550,000 yearling purchase by Sam-Son Farm in 1985.

Hangin On a Star went on to win the Breeders’ Stakes and run second in the Prince of Wales Stakes before retiring to the Sam-Son broodmare band, where she was the pivot point for runners including Canadian champions Comet Shine and Irish Mission and Grade 3 winners French Beret and Patience Game.

Malibu Secret is the first foal out of the Dynaformer mare Ain’t No Tellin’, who went unplaced in three starts from 5 1/2 furlongs to a mile. Ain’t No Tellin’ is a half-sister to Irish Mission, Canada’s champion 3-year-old filly and female turf horse of 2012, and to multiple Grade 3 winner and Canadian classic-placed French Beret, out of the stakes-winning Miswaki mare Misty Mission.

Malibu Secret won his maiden at seven furlongs and has placed in graded stakes at 1 1/16 miles.

Malibu Moon has sired 15 crops of racing age, with 887 winners and progeny earnings in excess of $97 million. Success siring a Canadian classic winner has evaded the 20-year-old son of A.P. Indy, but he solidified his résumé in the United States with 2013 Kentucky Derby winner Orb.

Other runners of note by Malibu Moon include champion juvenile Declan’s Moon and Grade 1 winners Life At Ten, Carina Mia, Gormley, Devil May Care, Malibu Mint, Ask the Moon, and Malibu Prayer.

Malibu Moon’s own racing career was cut short due to injury, but he showed potential, finishing second on debut in a 4 1/2-furlong race and winning at five furlongs in his second and final start.
