How to play the Pick 4

- by Michael Hammersly

Race 4

FAST PASS comes here hot to the touch. After three straight wins at Golden Gate he finished second but was beaten just a nose there May 29. He’s handled dirt well before. WEST COAST INDY ran on well to be fourth against much more expensive routing on Golden Gate turf June 10. He moves to a sprint and dirt, both of which are question marks, but the drop may overcome those. (2)

Race 5

LUCKY MARK may be sitting on a win. After a couple dull winter races they gave him time to regroup and he came back with a nice 2nd at Golden Gate May 13. He’s two for four on dirt. OUT THINK’EM has been knocking on the door of late and he may appreciate moving back to dirt as all five career wins have come on dirt. WISE TALE won here last July 3 but wasn’t seen again for 11 months. He did come back with a decent effort (4th) at Golden Gate June 10 and he may improve with that under his belt and with the move back to dirt. (3)

Race 6

STREELIGHTROMANCE set the pace under pressure routing vs. tougher at Golden Gate June 8 before fading to 6th. She drops and returns to sprinting, both of which can help. TRULY PONTI hasn’t won in a while but she’s run well of late, drops and returns to dirt – her only win and two of her three 2nds came on dirt. WHO SAID LUCKY is another who drops and returns to sprinting so she’s better situated here. She’s run well on dirt, too. (3)

Race 7

HOUSE OF CHANCE didn’t run badly in her first four starts, all against tougher at Golden Gate. The drop may be just what the Dr. ordered. TAKE CITY BY STORM has been knocking on the door and may be ready to bust through. BUNKER BUSTER dueled with ‘STORM when they met at this trip and level at Golden Gate May 26, finishing 2nd a neck ahead of his rival. His speed can have him in the thick of it from the bell again.
