BEST BET: RACE 9, ARCH FLASH

FIRST RACE

Lone Star has a special twilight post of 5 p.m. Central for the rare Monday card. Following the last race, there will be a fireworks display, according to a track representative. In the opener, DUCA’S BLING draws a post that might give Risenhoover options. Both of this one’s best Beyer Figures have come on the grass. DAPPER JACK has the speed to hold his position from the rail. UNREAL DEAL is a four-time winner facing some less-experienced rivals. PROUD ITALIAN is from a multiple stakeswinning mare who banked $391K.

SECOND RACE

FLYING CLEVER shortens up some after showing speed over seven-eighths last out and note that race came over a laboring kind of track. This one might be well-served if the strip is fast. C. G. RELIANCE draws an improved post over her last few starts. J J JESSE should be sharp for the six panels, site of her maiden win, off the five and a half panel start at Lone Star.

THIRD RACE

LA CANELA was meant for turf in her career debut, when second in a maiden allowance at Gulfstream. She is appealing from a class standpoint as she is making her first start in the claiming ranks. DEGREES OF FREEDOM has been favored in her last four starts, between Fair Grounds and Lone Star. EXTRA POINT moves back to turf and she put up her best career Beyer Figure on the grass, at this distance at Fair Grounds.

FOURTH RACE

COOL IT BABY moves back into the statebred ranks off a series of starts against open company and the last time he ran with Texas-breds he was a winner. EVERYTHING’S A BET returns to the claiming ranks after facing first-level allowance foes last out at Lone Star. He ran a credible fourth against fellow statebreds. WOODY’S TAVERN ran well on the cutback last time and should be sharp for the move back to two turns, site of his best finish this meet at Lone Star.

FIFTH RACE

YANKEE GAMBLER and PLASKA are both moving back into the claiming ranks after facing starter foes, making both appealing on class. YANKEE GAMBLER is returning to the distance of his last two wins on form. PLASKA is a consistent sort, while NIGHT PATROL was third last out in a key race. The winner came back in his next start to account for a $5K claimer at LS with a Beyer Figure of 76, and the fifth-place finisher, Wicked Rascal, another $5K claimer at LS, with a Beyer of 74. NIGHT PATROL is seeking career win No. 12.

SIXTH RACE

NOT THAT I RECALL moves back to both the grass and two turns and she is stakes-placed at the trip. CHERRY LANE hooked a dominant winner last out, with that runner putting up a Beyer Figure of 80. CHERRY LANE is now back on turf, site of her maiden win in April at Lone Star. ARIA seeks to become the first turf winner for her sire, who has had limited starters on the grass. This one has reason to move forward on second Lasix.

SEVENTH RACE

SUPERSTYLE was just edged at this level and distance last out at Lone Star to earn what ranks as this field’s best last-race Beyer Figure. He hooked some quality young horses earlier this year at Oaklawn. ELITCH is appealing as a runner who has been a popular claim among horsemen. He is seeking his third consecutive win off backto-back triumphs at Churchill. SPRING FOR GOLD exits same race as top choice, and had a less than ideal trip.

GENTLE SECRET was stakes-placed last out in the offthe-turf Lane’s End - Danny Shifflett Stallion Scholarship Stakes and might benefit if this race stays on the grass as her last win came on turf at Lone Star. COAST OF LA defeated top choice when the pair met in a starter allowance May 29 at Lone Star. COAST OF LA owns the field’s best last-race turf Beyer Figure. KITCHEN BOSS is a consistent sort who could be sitting on a peak race in her third start since March.

NINTH RACE

ARCH FLASH ran well at this sometimes-difficult distance of seven-eighths last out and is a logical choice back. BANKROLL BEN, who started his career in South Florida, was fifth last out in what has become a key race. The third-place finisher came back to take a $10K maiden claimer at LS with a Beyer of 59, and the seventh-place finisher, Indian Orange, a $20K maiden claimer at LS, with a Beyer of 55. CALL ON ME ran well at this trip in May, while another of interest is JIMJEFF.

TENTH RACE

FLOWERSFORLADY shortens up some in distance and the move seems to suit honest mare. INDYPENDENT DEPUTY popped a career-high Beyer Figure last out when returning to turf for what was her first out since April. More than capable. BARBARY HALL might be tough to handle with a repeat of her last effort. ANOTHER BOND GIRL is appealing as a two-time stakes winner. SMALL CITY GIRL is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Sailor’s Valentine ($369K). She has been flattered since her win last out, with the fifth-place finisher, Celebrity’s Gift, coming back in her next start to take an N1X at LS with a Beyer of 67, and the seventh-place finisher, Includere, a $10K claimer at LS, with a Beyer of 56.
